Dear Member & Program Participant,

We hope you are enjoying the spring weather we have been experiencing. I want to thank you for your continued support and it’s my pleasure to share with you a few important operational updates.

ADULT & JUNIOR PROGRAM UPDATES

PROGRAM REGISTRATIONS – SUMMER & FALL 2024
Summer and Fall 2024 Junior & Adult Program registration will be available for viewing beginning April 24, 2024 (12:01 am). Registration will be open for Members as of May 1st (8:00 am) and for Non-Members on May 8th (8:00 am). If you have any questions regarding program registration, please contact the Member Services Desk (587) 393 1600 or via email at info@albertatenniscentre.ca.

As programs fill up very quickly, please register as soon as you can to guarantee your space in our spring session.

NIKE SUMMER TENNIS CAMP REGISTRATIONS
Our popular, Nike Summer Tennis Camp registrations is now open for registration for the 2024 summer season. Camps are offered for children from 4 – 14 years of age. For more information or to register click here. Camps begin July 2nd.

CLUB OPERATION UPDATES & REMINDERS

HOLIDAY HOURS – VICTORIA DAY WEEKEND

  • The ATC will operate on holiday hours on May 20th (Victoria Day). Our hours of operation will be 9am – 9pm.
  • The ATC will be closed on Canada Day (July 1st).SUMMER COURT RATES & HOURS OF OPERATION
    The ATC summer court rates will be in effect from June 1st to August 31. The summer rates are $22.00 non-prime time and $28.00 prime time. There will be no changes to the hours of operation during the summertime period.SUMMER PLAY PASS & MEMBERSHIP
    Our Summer Play Pass is once again returning to the ATC. The Summer Play Pass will be available for members only, beginning May 1st. The summer play pass provides pass-holders with a flat-fee rate (all-inclusive) fee during the summer months. Members who hold a summer play pass do not pay for their court fees from June 1st to August 31st. The pass can also be used for play in the main building and in the bubble.NOTE: Payment for partners fees, or to waive any guest fee or payment of ball machine fees – are all excluded from the Summer Play Pass.For more information and rates or to purchase a summer play pass, contact the Member Services Desk at (587) 393 1600 or email info@albertatenniscentre.ca

NEW WEBSITE LAUNCHED
The ATC successfully launched its new website on March 13th, 2024. Our new website integrates directly into Club Automation and our members will have the ability to book/view the court grid, register for programs and receive communications, view blogs and much more.

FACILITY EXPANSION UPDATE
Our Board and Management Team continue discussions with the City of Calgary on the acquisition of additional land to complete Phase 3 of our expansion project. While we wait on word from the city, we have already developed preliminary plans and costing the project with our construction team. Our plan will be released should the city approve the land, but Phase 3 will include another 8 courts and parking. We will continue to provide updates to our membership and the tennis community as they become available.

FACILITY IMPROVEMENTS THIS SUMMER
Court 1-8 lights will be replaced on the evenings of July 24th and 25th. We will schedule the work overnight to minimize disruption to our members and program participants.

CAFÉ NEWS
ATC has recently purchased new coffee machines. We are proud to brew Nespresso Coffee at the ATC. Coffee will now be available for sale at the Member Services Desk and upstairs in the café. A new coffee menu will also be released soon.

STAFFING NEWS & UPDATES

  • 16 ATC coaches are currently involved in coach certification courses. Our ATC team prides itself on improving its coacheducation, so we can deliver better programs and services to our members, participants and our tennis community.
  • Congratulations to ATC Tennis Professional Rahul Duggi, who won the University of Calgary Club Student-AthleteAward. Congratulations Rahul, we are very proud of your achievements on-and-off-the-court.
  • New Employees – The ATC is proud to welcome the following new team members to our team:

o Daniel Henschel – Tennis Professional, Daniel will be joining the ATC on July 1st. Daniel was a former Canadian University Tennis Star and is ranked among the best tennis players in Canada.

o Bruno Cabral – Tennis Professional, Bruno joins us from his native Brazil. Bruno will be involved in our junior and adult development programs.

o Don Best – Tennis Professional, ATC member will be joining our team at the ATC. Don will be assisting our adult and junior programs.

o 3 part-time members of our Member Service Team will be joining the ATC in the coming weeks: welcome, Kate, Valentina and Rachel. The café also saw a new team member join our team, welcome Anastasiia who is a recent arrival from Ukraine.

o Kateryna Tymets who has been promoted to café supervisor. Kateryna is working hard to make changes to our café services. Kateryna joined the ATC late last year and she has done a great job in the café as well as adjusting to her new life in Canada. Congratulations Kateryna!

• Shane Nicholls who recently graduated has just started an internship as a physiotherapist. Congratulations Shane!

OTHER CLUB NEWS

CALGARY NATIONAL BANK CHALLENGER WINS PRESTIGIOUS CANADIAN SPORT TOURISM AWARD
Calgary National Bank Challenger was named the 2023 Sponsorship Initiative Award Winner at the STC Prestige Awards held in Winnipeg, Manitoba on March 15th. The Prestige Awards recognize exceptional sport tourism initiatives, multi-sport games and Canada’s best national and international events. The Awards are Canada’s largest annual gathering of sport and tourism professionals, event managers and industry suppliers. STC Canadian Sport Event Sponsorship Initiative of the Year Award recognizes the best use of a partnership between a company, organization, agency, or individual that contributed to the overall success of a national or international sport event held in Canada. The Challenger was previously a finalist for the award in 2022.

CANADIAN JUNIOR NATIONALS’ RESULTS
The ATC held the U12 Canadian Junior Nationals from March 25-April 1. 80 players, coaches and officials from all over Canada participated in the event and 500 matches were played. The event was highlighted by two ATC junior players finishing runner-up in the Girls U12 Doubles Event. Congratulations Zimo Bai & Sophie Murray who finished 2nd in doubles. Zimo also finished in 10th place in singles. Sophie finished #18th.

11 ATC juniors participated in the Canadian Junior Nationals over the past few week, notable results included:

  • Zimo Bai also finished in 10th Place in singles.
  • Sophie Murray finished in 19th place in singles
  • Matthew Popa (first year U14) finished 19Th in Singles and Quarterfinals of Doubles
  • Sophia Montemurro (first year U16) finished in 13th place in U16Congratulations to all our ATC juniors on their achievements.YONEX CALGARY ITF SENIOR EVENT
    The ATC hosted a very successful YONEX Calgary ITF Senior Event from February 16 to 19, 2024. In total there were 166 entries in this year’s event. We wanted to congratulate all our ATC members who competed at the YONEX Calgary ITF Senior Event. Congratulations to the 17 ATC members who reached the semi-finals or beyond at the event:

The ATC will be hosting some upcoming junior and adult events this spring/summer.

  • May 25 – June 1, the ATC will be hosting the YONEX CALGARY ITF JUNIOR EVENT (International Junior Event).

  • July 25 – 28, U12/U14 – 3 Star event (Provincial)
  • July 28 – First Set Tour – Rising Stars U9 (Provincial)
  • August 8 – 11, Doubles Tournament (3.0, 4.0, 5.0) – Adult (Provincial)
  • August 22 – 25, U14/U18-3 Star event (Provincial)
  • August 25 – First Set Tour – Rising Stars U10 (Provincial)NOTE: there will be a limited number of courts made available for booking while these events are being held.
