MEMO: URGENT MEMO: GOVERNMENT OF ALBERTA ORDERS NEW RESTRICTIONS
FROM: Danny Da Costa, Chief Executive Officer
TO: OSTEN & VICTOR Alberta Tennis Centre Members & Program Participants
Dear Member and Program Participant,
Earlier today the Government of Alberta announced new two-week (November 13 – 27th, 2020) temporary emergency COVID-19 restrictions which impact tennis centres and recreational facilities in the province.
At this time, we do not know the full extent of permitted activities and only know that group lessons are prohibited. In his press conference, Premier Kenney referenced that indoor tennis is permitted. However, at this time, representatives for both the City and Province have not been able to provide definitive clarity on which tennis activities are permitted.
I am working with the City and Province to understand the full extent of today’s announcement and I will provide a further update as soon as I know more. At the very least, we will remain operational during this two-week period.
Based on our current interpretation of today’s announcement, the following activities should be able to occur at this time (subject to clarification):
· Singles / Doubles Play
· Private and Semi-Private Lessons
The following programs and activities are ‘paused’ for the next two weeks: (November 13 – 27th, 2020 inclusive)
Special Events / Other
· All Fundamentals, Competitive and HP Programs
· All adult programs, clinics and league play
· Use of fitness facility is prohibited
· Club Championships will be postponed
NOTE: Our staff will credit any/all programs affected by this two-week interruption. There will be no refunds issued.
We want to provide opportunities for our tennis professionals to continue to work during this time and to service our members and program participants who are impacted. Therefore, a portion of our programming courts will be retained to allow lessons to occur. All remaining courts will be released within the next 48 to 72 hours.
As well, given the current public health situation, our club championships will be postponed to a later date. All players who have registered to participate will be refunded. A new tournament date and registration period will be announced once things normalize.
The Board of Directors and I will do everything we can to ensure our organization overcomes the COVID pandemic. We are looking forward to better times when our members and program participants can, once again without interruption, enjoy the game of tennis. On behalf of all of us at the OSTEN & VICTOR Alberta Tennis Centre, thank you for your unwavering support. I am confident we will get through this difficult situation.
