RE:                          Resumption of outdoor tennis programming and doubles play

DATE:                     May 20, 2020

Hello,

I am pleased to announce that the Government of Alberta’s has further eased restrictions as per CMOH Order 20-2020 which now allows gatherings of up to 50 people in a group, in an outdoor location as long as two (2) metre physical distancing remains in place and all other health guidelines are followed.

As such, we are now permitted to provide group instruction and doubles play as long as we fall into the Rule of 50 and physical distancing and health guidelines are put in place effective Monday May 25th, 2020.  This has been confirmed to us by the City of Calgary Recreation Department.

Please refer to our COVID-19 video resources on how to play safe singles and doubles here:

·         Singles & Lesson Safety Video: https://youtu.be/6ALr545xSJ0

·         Doubles Safety Video: https://youtu.be/8ANGrYxa1_U

For the time being, singles and doubles bookings will be limited to 60 minutes to allow as many of our members/guests to play. Once our indoor facilities open, we will allow regular member and non-member booking rules.

At this time, we are not permitted to open our indoor facilities, but we are working very hard to try and make that happen as quickly as possible.  I have been in regular communication with the City of Calgary Recreation Department, CEMA, Province of Alberta and with Tennis Alberta and Tennis Canada to continue to leverage the case to open indoor/outdoor facilities. A recent communication was sent on Monday May 18, 2020 to key contacts in Government. Earlier today, we also placed a phone call to Minister Shandro’s office (Calgary-Acadia MLA and Minister of Health) as well.

We remain hopeful that the Government will allow indoor tennis access in the very near future.

Given today’s developments, we will be resuming our High-Performance Group beginning the week of May 25th. Our NextGen Programs will begin the week of June 1st. If you are involved in one of these programs, our coaching staff will be in touch regarding your son/daughter’s training schedule. All of the other programs (junior and adult spring sessions) have been credited at this time.

REMINDERS:

1.       Summer Junior Tennis Camp registration is now open for junior players at: https://www.sportscampscanada.com/tennis/nike/nike-tennis-camp-at-alberta-tennis-centre/

STAFF UPDATES:

We are sad to report that Micaela Widmer is no longer employed by the OSTEN & VICTOR Alberta Tennis Centre. Given the financial realities that this COVID-19 pandemic has caused, we have decided to restructure our operations to ensure our continued financial viability.

Micaela was a valuable member of our staff for the past 4 years and we are sad to see her go. Micaela was well-liked by our membership and made significant contributions to our organization. We wish Micaela all the best in her future endeavours. In the meantime, if you have any questions relating to member services, membership or programs, please direct them to Sila Huang shuang@albertatenniscentre.ca or myself.

We hope you and your families are staying safe and healthy. Thank you for your continued patience and support as we reopen our facilities.

If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me directly.

Regards,

Danny Da Costa
