Further Clarifications on Government of Alberta Restrictions

MEMO:                  FURTHER UPDATE ON GOVERNMENT OF ALBERTA RESTRICTIONS

FROM:                    Danny Da Costa, Chief Executive Officer

TO:                          Alberta Tennis Centre Members, Program Participants and Staff

DATE:                     November 26, 2020

Dear Member, Participants and Staff,

I am writing to follow up on yesterday’s memo dated November 25, 2020, regarding the restrictions announced by the Government of Alberta on November 24, 2020.

Our Exemption Letter on behalf of all clubs in Alberta has been submitted to Alberta Health Services, Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Minister Shandro and BizConnect. We are hopeful that we will have some positive news in the coming days.

At this time, I have no further update from our contacts with the City of Calgary, Sport Calgary, Province of Alberta, Alberta Health Services, Sport Physical Activity and Recreation Alberta, or from Tennis Alberta. Therefore, we will carry on with the restrictions, as announced yesterday evening. The City of Calgary has also declared a public health emergency which allows for additional powers to restrict business activities. As a facility with a City lease, this may impact our Tennis Centre.  At this time, the City has not informed any of their sport partners what new restrictions will be imposed on its partners. Should I hear anything further, I will let you know.

Therefore, until further notice, as of November 27, 2020, and for the following 3 weeks, the Alberta Tennis Centre will operate as follows under SECTION 1:

SECTION 1:

Permitted effective November 27th

(confirmed)

·         Individual lessons (1-on-1 private lessons)

·         Use of ball machine for practice

·         Serve practice

·         Singles play (practice) from members of the same household

·         Use of gym equipment (limited to a maximum of 4 people, with booking guidelines)

SECTION 2:

Alberta Tennis Leaders interpret that this should be permitted but further clarification is required

(not confirmed, awaiting Government input)

·         Semi-Private lessons (where one player is playing per side) on a court with a certified coach, maintaining at least two meters physical distance and all other public health requirements in place

·         Singles play (practice) from members of any household

SECTION 3:

Alberta Tennis Leaders have sought further clarification and have applied for an exemption

(awaiting approval)

·         Doubles Play

·         Singles & Doubles League Play

·         Semi-Private Lessons

·         Group Lessons (4) players or more

SECTION 4:

Prohibited activities at this time

·         Group training sessions and programs with 5 players or more

·         Competitions and events

·         Socials

·         Walk-ins

·         Spectators

Effective Friday, November 27, 2020, the OSTEN & VICTOR Alberta Tennis Centre will only permit SECTION 1. Our hope is that by early next week, we will be permitted to reopen SECTION 2 and SECTION 3. At this time, SECTION 4 is not permitted. Due to capacity restrictions, there will be no spectators allowed in our Centre. Parents must adhere to drop-off and pick-up of children for private lessons. I will advise you of any relevant developments that occur.

COURT RESERVATIONS

Only singles bookings with members of the same household are permitted effective November 27th, 2020. No doubles play is allowed at this time.

The Member Services Desk will send out an email to all players with a regular booking for November 27 onwards, to inform the players that that only family member from the same household are allowed to play SINGLES until further notice. No doubles play is allowed at this time.

If you have made a reservation for a singles or doubles court with someone outside of your household, these bookings are NOT permitted at this time. If you would like to modify your booking to play with a member of your own household or to cancel your bookings, please call the Member Services Desk at 587-393-1600.

However, if you choose not to modify your booking or not to cancel it, your booking will not be cancelled until the actual booking time has passed. As the situation is rapidly evolving, this is to hold your reservation in the event that the Government of Alberta and AHS allow singles with players outside of your household or doubles play in the upcoming hours or days. Once the booking time has passed, the Member Service Desk will cancel your court booking. All the applicable court fees and guest fees will be deposited to your club account as credits. The club credits do not expire and can be used towards future programs and services.

If we receive any direction from the Government of Alberta and AHS that allow for singles play (or doubles play) with players from outside of your household, we will immediately send an update, and you will be able to come for your original court booking time for singles play (or doubles play).
